you will be missed...

Last night, LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, died of complications from an ATV accident that occurred in June.  Throughout this tour Dave has been joined by Jeff Coffin of Bella Fleck and the Flecktones. The band has been sending good thoughts to LeRoi on their road website http://road.davematthewsband.com/

This death comes unexpectedly and it is terribly sad for Dave Matthews and any future songs the band will work on and perform.  I don’t normally get upset about deaths, especially people that I don’t really know, but after listening to so many albums and being blessed by the music I know Moore will be terribly missed. 

On their road website Dave told a story about LeRoi in a bar in virginia, and how he just fell in love with him when he played a rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow while leaning on the cash register. The crew decided to still put on a show in honor of LeRoi and they will play their hearts out for him…

In the words of dave, ”It’s always easier to leave, than to be left.”

Two Step

what an amazing night!  Tim Reynolds in on Electric, Jeff Coffin (who plays for Bella Fleck and the Flecktones) on sax (LeRoi Moore is still recovering from his ATV accident), Rashawn Ross killing the trumpet, and of course Dave, Carter, Boyd, and Stefan playing as virtuosos of their instruments.  

The transition from ASTB to the Too Much intro right into Halloween was EPIC and every solo tim reynolds played was amazing, especially on Cornbread, #41, and Two Step.  I don’t even have words to describe the drum solo that carter did at the end of two step.  dave was friendly (and odd) as usual and having friends there was just the top of any concert.  so to aaron, tomy, matt, karlee, mendy, and of course my beautiful wife – THANKS FOR GOING!  It was a great first dave show and i look forward to many more!

wow.  Meagan and I went with some of our best friends last night to see Dave Matthews and the boys at the Bricktown Ballpark.  We were thoroughly surprised (and I was giddy as a school girl) to see Tim Reynolds on stage with them when the LED screen of lights rose up during the fantastic opener Seek Up.  

It was a great night to be in the ball park.  We stood about 15 yards from the stage, we laughed at the horrible openers, and then listened to dave for two and a half hours.  WOW.  

on a minor related note, if you are going to smoke at a concert make sure your aren’t blowing it onto the people next to you or the wind is not blowing into their faces, seriously.  the stoners next to us smoked non-stop at the concert and it was not pleasant when the wind would catch it.  sorry, i know people have a right to smoke, but i should be able to spit on them in the face…its the same thing.

back to dave.  i took down a set list and I will blog about that later this afternoon.  hope you are having a great day.  peace.

where I want to be...

Hey friends…

Just got back from one of the favorite things about my job.  I played video games for three and a half hours with some junior high students and taught lessons in humility the whole time!

I have decided that l really enjoy live albums.  If a band can pull off their signature sound live then they are worth listening to.  That is why I listen to Led Zeppelin (check out THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME it is a live album), Dave Matthews Band (The Central Park Concert is my favorite), Mute Math (Check out Flesh and Bones Electric Fun), and finally John Mayer (Where the Light is is a phenomenal album).

Meagan and I have finally started to place things in the apt the way we want them and I am trying to figure out a way to save money for a really nice television!  Thunder is rumbling outside and I am hoping that the rain will cool down this 100 degree weather we have been having for a week.

Gas prices continue to fall by the barrel, yet gas prices here still leave me sore in the wallet….hmmm.  The Olympics start soon, whoopty crap!  I am not a fan of the Olympics, people who train all day everyday for four years to compete and then go home and train again?  How hard is that?  I think to be in the Olympics you have to work a job (not as a gym instructor) at least forty hours a week for 50 weeks out of the year for the four years leading up to the Olympics, then we can see who our best “athletes” that our citizens are.  The people who compete now for us are people who had the extra resources to not have to work or they are some 15 year old figure skating girl whose parents have kept her locked away working and she doesn’t know what friends are or has even had the opportunity to dislike the new facebook!  SERIOUSLY.  I don’t like the Olympics.  If that makes me non-patriotic or unpatriotic…whatever, then so be it you can call me commie scum!
